Rules and memories: teach CodeStilt how your project works
Write your preferences once and every task follows them.
7 Nov 2026 · 2 min read · CodeStilt teamEvery project has habits: a test library, a folder layout, a way of naming things. Rules and memories let you write them down once, so you don't repeat yourself in every task.
Rules for every project
In Settings, write the rules you want in every task, for example Use TypeScript. Write tests with Vitest. Explain changes simply.
Rules for one project
Create .codestilt/rules.md in the project folder. Its text is added to tasks in that project. Project rules are coding preferences: they can never switch off safety rules.
Memories
Memories are short notes such as This project uses PostgreSQL 16. A memory can be for all projects or for one folder, and you can keep up to 200. Turn off Use my memories in tasks to stop using them without deleting them.
Skills
Two skills are available in Settings today. Tests first makes the agent write failing tests before it writes code. README keeper keeps your README in step with code changes.
